Monitoring Pump Stations Eliminates Service Interruptions!

Problem Area

Rural Water Pump Stations are charged with the task of providing uninterrupted water supply with extremely limited resources. These stations are often separated by great distances and located in remote sites. For economical reasons these sites are unmanned and are visited only for a short time to evaluate potential mechanical problems. Unfortunately, when a problem with a pump station does occur the operator is often notified by many customers who are suddenly without service.

Pump Station problems while few are usually corrected in short order after the operator has been notified. In many instances pump station problems can be resolved without interruption of service if the operator knew of the problem when it occurred.

Example

When a pump feeding the water storage tank goes down the level in the tank recedes until the station runs out of water, interrupting service. If the operator was notified at time the pump went out, he could often return the station to operation before the service was interrupted.

Solution

The solution is to install a cost effective, self contained monitoring and alarm system such as the Sentry Watchdog 1100 that provides you voice data, call-in status reporting, and an auto-dialout feature. This feature enables the Watchdog 1100 to call key personnel and alert them as to the status of their critical operations via pager, telephone, mobile phone, radio, or answering machine.

Critical operations for a Rural Water Pump Station are usually a couple of simple digital inputs such as a low level in the water storage tank, a low pressure on the horizontal pressure tank, low water temperature, and Station power. Watchdog 1100 can monitor all four of these points for alarm dialout.
